BASF and Givaudan Develop First OECD-Approved Animal Test Alternatives
New tests on cell cultures, toxicological tests to evaluate skin sensitization without the use of animals. The strategy, which consists of three alternative methods, was approved by the OECD (Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development). The same organization has also approved the Kinetic Direct Peptide Reactivity Assay, which makes it possible to predict, without testing on animals, the intensity of an allergic reaction in humans. In 2018, the European Parliament approved a resolution calling for a global ban on animal testing and on the sale of cosmetics tested on animals by 2023. These cruelty free alternative methods are therefore even more necessary!
