Sales of prestige fragrances overtake pre-pandemic levels in France, NPD

Sales of prestige fragrances recorded a 20% increase in the selective channel (perfumes, department stores and specialist e-shops of prestige) in France during the first eight months of the year, according to a report by The NPD Group. A rate well above that of the whole of 2021 when sales had increased by 11%, restricted by subsequent lockdowns during the first half of the year. Consumers show a preference for more concentrated perfumes. In fact, eau de parfum sales increased by 23% compared to the same period last year and increased by 12% compared to 2019.

Shiseido Europe is acquiring Gallinée Ltd., the London-based beauty brand focused on the microbiome, as part of its "WIN 2023 and Beyond" strategy to become the number 1 in the world in the category by 2030. Gallinée, founded in 2014 by Marie Drago, offers a range of science-backed beauty products featuring a proprietary complex of prebiotics, probiotics and postbiotics that nourish and strengthen the skin's microbiome.
Unilever Ventures was one of the first investors in Gallinée.

Rives de la Beauté – the niche fragrance event in Paris

No sooner did I return to Paris after Pitti Fragranze than it was the moment to attend Rives de la Beauté, the Paris-based event celebrating niche fragrance and beauty. Rives is unique because it highlights fragrance locales throughout the city while hosting a select group of brands in a temporary space, L’Atelier des Rives, in which installations, workshops and seminars are also held. The four day program was a great opportunity to discover branded and multi-brand shops all over town before circling back to the Atelier, located this year at the Galerie Joseph in the Marais district, where I spent most of my time.

Pitti Fragranze 2022….my fragrance diary

The long days of summer may be behind us but the sun was still shining in Italy when the fragrance community gathered in Florence for Pitti Fragranze September 16 – 18. The theme of this year’s event centered around the five senses which were twisted around to inspire a multi-sensorial experience: Smell my eyes, Hear my Skin, Touch my Scent, See my Lips, Taste my Smell. The days at Pitti were filled with fragrance discoveries at booths, with informative lectures, after hours events and with off site visits to several perfumeries scattered around town. Multi-sensorial indeed. Here’s a peak into my diary.
