India's first Lavender Festival held in J-k's Bhaderwah
On May 27, 2022, India's first "Lavender Festival" was inaugurated in Bhaderwah. The Union Minister for Science and Technology said "Bhaderwah is the potential destination for agro-tech startups in the country. Bhaderwah is the best place for growing lavender in terms of soil and climate." Six lavender distillation units were also inaugurated on that occasion. The event is part of the CSIR-AROMA mission, as part of the activities of the Ministry of Science and Technology, which aims to develop and disseminate science and technology relating to flavorings. The mission is attracting startups and farmers from across the country and during Phase I, CSIR helped cultivate 6,000 hectares of land and covered 46 districts across the country. More than 44,000 people have been trained with positive economic effects. In the second phase, the mission aims to involve over 45,000 qualified human resources with the aim of benefiting more than 75,000 farming families across the country.
